Bonsall teammates Todd Webster and Kyle Holmes have helped the Derbyshire team retain the Aviva Under 13 Boys Sportshall Athletics East Midlands Championship for 2011, held on Sunday.
Competing in Grantham against teams from Leicestershire and Rutland, Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire and Northamptonshire, Kyle and Todd put in blistering performances in both the 4x1-lap obstacle relay and the 4x1-lap sprint relay to help win gold in both events.
Kyle also competed in the speed bounce competition where he won a bronze. Kyle’s sister Elli Rose also put in a great run to finish second in the Under 11s one-lap race. The final results for the under 13 Boys were: Derbyshire 719 points, Nottinghamshire 665 points, Leicestershire and Rutland 579 points, Lincolnshire 471 points and Northamptonshire 292 points.
This was an impressive win for the Derbyshire team, who also won the under 13s girls and both the under 15s girls and boys team events. They now go on to compete in the Aviva Sportshall UK Championships Final to be held at the LG Arena in Birmingham on April 3, where leading teams and individuals from across the UK gather to contest for national honours.
Todd also recently represented Derbyshire in the Aviva Under 11s Sportshall athletics at the end of January and along with his partner Merlin from Chesterfield won the one-lap, two-lap and six-lap events, came first in the javelin and third in the triple jump. These fantastic performances helped Derbyshire again to the overall win in the event.
