A FREE fun afternoon of golf for women and girls was held at Matlock Golf Club on Saturday in rather damp conditions.

Despite the wet weather, organisers have hailed the event as a great success with participants enjoying various golf games including a crazy golf putting course.

Anybody that couldn’t make the fun afternoon can have four free introductory lessons at the club.

Women interested in this opportunity are asked to ring Carol Hill for more details on 01246 568225.

Meanwhile, another big day for the club was the visit of the Matlock past captains to Beeston Fields Golf Club. The winner was Brian Stacey 39pts, second was Don Heathcote 39pts, with the team prize going to Peter Beardsley, John Rebaudi and Brian Stacey.

In the inter-club matches, the Ladies Bronze played away at Shirland and won, the Captain’s Team played Chesterfield away, winning 4–2 and the Seniors lost at Mickleover 5–2.

On Saturday, with very difficult conditions due to heavy showers and gusting winds, Tim Duxbury won the Sykes Cup with a score of four better.

Sunday saw the Mixed Foursomes Cup, won by vice-captain Ian Marr and Louise Jones. Second were John Simmons and Jenny Simpson and third were chairman Peter Beardsley and vice-chairman Cynthia Machent.

All teams scored 74pts with placings determined on countback.
