Heartache for Derwent

Leicester 1sts 3

Derwent 1sts 2

Derwent almost snatched a valuable point in their latest away fixture in the East Midlands Division One.

But it wasn’t to be as James Bolus missed the target with the last shot of the game.

All this came after a terrible start for Derwent, who didn’t seem to be at the races.

Before they knew it, Leicester had hit them on the break twice and scored twice, leaving them 2-0 down before they knew what had happened.

Derwent then started to find their feet and moved the ball round well and closed down the opposition better.

Miles Smirthwaite in the middle of the pitch began to dominate possession for Derwent and switch the play and Steve Langrick up front made some incisive runs round the back but couldn’t quite find the finishing touch that was needed.

Derwent got a goal back thanks to good work from Tom Ellison and Adam Orduna, which saw George Taylor fire in from a close angle.

Derwent dominated possession in the second half as well but were unfortunate to go another goal behind before they created more pressure on the Leicester goal.

George Taylor again got Derwent back into it and then, with the last short corner of the game, Bolus fired into the side netting when it might have been easier to hit the target.

Overall, it was a much better performance which Derwent will again hope to build on before they entertain table-toppers Ramgharia at Wirksworth this Saturday.
