Hockey players are raring to go

ouR local hockey teams will be champing at the bit on Saturday as they look to get back into action following another weather-induced blank weekend.

Derwent Hockey Club 1sts’ hopes of getting back to winning ways after suffering their first league defeat in 12 months have been hampered by two postponements but this Saturday they will travel to take on third-placed Leicester. Table-topping Derwent are currently 12 points ahead of their hosts.

Derwent 2nds, who are third from bottom in their league, entertain second-placed Ashby while Derwent 3rds, also three off the bottom in their respective league, pay a visit to Leamington.

As for Matlock Baileans, the 1sts are at home to Worcester and the 2nds entertain Ashby.

The 1sts are sitting in second place in their division, just one point behind leaders Stourport. Worcester are third from bottom.

The 2nds occupy fourth place and their visitors are bottom of the league.

The thirds fourths and sixths are without a competitive game and Matlock Baileans 5ths are making the short trip down the A6 to take on Belper 3rds.

Weather permitting, you will be able to find out how all of our teams got on on Saturday, by reading next week’s edition of the Mercury.
