Matlock Water Polo Club’s 20-12 defeat at Hucknall last Monday did not do the away side justice after they competed admirably for three quarters against a near full-strength Hucknall side that was league runners-up last season.
12-9 down going into the final session, the home side only started to look comfortable as the match neared completion.
The Derbyshire side is developing with every game that is being played and January 18th’s return leg at the Arc has been arranged with this in mind (seats available half price).
As the New Year approaches, five new players have attended training in the last fortnight and more are anticipated in January.
Season ticket sales information is expected to be announced shortly.
A welcome Christmas celebration was had by playing members of staff after the final year’s training session of the year last Wednesday.
Joe Winterbottem’s full Santa regalia was only matched slightly by Amy Pearson’s Yuletide socks and Colin Ingley’s vilely attractive Christmas T-shirt, sent over especially by his American mother-in-law. Missing club president and fashion icon Jim Evans, was disappointed not to compete, saying: “I would have knocked them dead with my seasonal bus conductor outfit!”
No one reportedly shared his loss apparently, at the time of going to press.
The club is moving forward after a progressive and eventful few months.
Thanks to everyone who has helped in anyway, even if just by reading this column each week.
All club members are grateful and wish everyone a prosperous and very happy New Year.
