DarLEy Dale Ladies Doubles got off to a winning start to the season in the Derby League Division Three, beating Belper Meadows 5-4.
Trish Barrable and Paula Hubber had a nervous start in their opening rubber and at one stage were 6-2 down but rallied and took the rubber 9-7. Their second rubber went more smoothly, with an emphatic 9-2 win.
In the third rubber, against a strong Belper second couple, they lost 9-3.
Second couple Judith Jones and Deborah Hurst had a very poor start, losing 9-2. However, in their second rubber, they found form and eventually took the rubber on a tie break, winning 9-8. Their third rubber was won easily 9-3. Claire Crofts and Anne Paxton had three epic rubbers. Starting play at 6.30pm, they finished at 10pm when the floodlights had to be turned off. Their first rubber was won on a tie break 9-8, their second rubber was again taken to a tie break which they lost 9-8. The third was 7-8 when play ended. This gave Darley their first points of the season.
