Mannerians lose on road

Market Bosworth 31

Bakewell Mannerians 13

MANNERIANS lost out in this switched fixture on Saturday in the Midlands Two East (North).

Bakewell started strongly and were off the mark in the opening minutes of the encounter thanks to a penalty kick from Will Moroney.

The visitors were quick out of the blocks and looked to apply the early pressure.

An early penalty from skipper Moroney gave his side first blood and Mannerians led 3-0.

Mannerians then conceded two swift penalties with both kicks missed but it wasn’t long before Bosworth followed this up with a try to take a narrow lead.

Bakewell responded in the best possible manner and scored a try of their own when Tom Crapper beat two men to go over between the posts.

Moroney added the conversion to give the visitors a 10-5 lead.

Moroney then kicked a penalty to make it 13-5 but little did Mannerians know that their scoring was completed for the afternoon.

There was still time for the home side to reply with a brace of penalties to make the half-time score 13-11 to Mannerians.

The second half started badly for Mannerians as they conceded a try to see the home side move into a 16-13 lead.

Mannerians got into good positions without quite being able to achieve the breakthrough to put them back into the lead but Market Bosworth created plenty of their own and managed to add another 15 points to their tally to eventually win the game.

The last match before Christmas sees Mannerians travel to take on Oakham, kicking off at 2.15pm on Saturday.
