Matlock Baileans 1sts 2

Birmingham University 2nds 2

Matlock Baileans first team was raring to go from the whistle, marking tightly and attacking aggressively.

In the first half, Matlock were in control of the game, passing the ball up the pitch to gain a number of chances.

Throughout the match, both Becky Bowman and Debra Greer performed some excellent runs up the wings at pace, cutting through Birmingham’s defence.

After 15 minutes of the match, Becky Bowman managed to find the back of Birmingham’s net, putting Matlock in the lead.

Matlock battled hard and, with great communication from Dani Archer at the back, they managed to lead going into the second half.

At half-time, a positive team talk from coach Jamie meant Matlock went out motivated and focused on the game in hand.

After a number of attacks from Birmingham, they were eventually able to slot the ball into the net making the score 1-1.

Matlock kept their heads up and maintained their good structure but were unfortunate to give away a short corner from which Birmingham lifted an unstoppable ball into the net.

With a massive push by Matlock in the last few minutes of the match, Nic Martin dribbled from deep and on into the circle where she lifted the ball into the back of the net.

The full-time whistle followed shortly after, to leave Matlock with a draw and a well-deserved point.
