The magnificent sum of £8,379.77 has been raised by Matlock Golf Club for its chosen charity of 2015, Fairplay.

A series of activities throughout the year contributed to the final total for the Chesterfield-based charity, which provides support to children with disabilities, and their families, in north Derbyshire and the Derbyshire Dales.

The cheque was presented to Heather Fawbert, of Fairplay, by club captain Ian Waite’s seven-year-old grand-daughter, Lizzie Knighton, who has cerebral palsy.

Lizzie was guest of honour on the night when Waite and lady captain Mel Elton thanked members and friends at a packed clubhouse for their efforts and contributions.

The following Tuesday, the clubhouse was again almost at full capacity as members, families and friends gathered for a Christmas concert of varied music by the Belper Town Wind Band. The incoming 2016 captains, Paul Edwards and Liz Sherrin, launched their fundraising programme for their chosen charity, the Alzheimer’s Society.
