Mooney trophy haul as Matlock junior golfers celebrate

To celebrate a very successful season, particularly for captain Tom Mooney, the junior golfers of Matlock Golf Club assembled to play a range of competitive matches prior to their Junior Presentations.

Following the competitions, the junior members and their families and friends along with Junior Organisers, Raili Turk, Paul Mooney and John Gregory welcomed club captain Paul Edwards and lady captain Liz Sherrin to a buffet and the presentation of the trophies.

It really has been a stunning year for Junior captain Tom Mooney, who reduced his handicap from nine to seven, received a call up to represent the county at U16 and U18 level, and became Derbyshire Junior Match-play Champion.

He also captained the Matlock team which won the Derbyshire Junior League Trophy.

In addition Tom won the Junior Scratch Cup, Winter League Trophy, Bill Mills Par Medal Trophy and a well deserved Junior Congu Player of the Year.

The most improved junior player of the year and Junior Girls Player of the Year was Jessica Aston.

The most improved CONGU player of the year and winner of the Syd Boam Trophy was Tom Fennah.

Tom also won the Lewis Edwards Memorial Trophy as winner of the Junior Order of Merit.

There was special mention for the Junior Cadets who had all worked hard over the summer with the Junior Rookie of the Year Award being shared by Oliver Crellin and Fergus Andrews..

Junior captain Tom and fellow team members Daniel Latimer, Tom Fennah, Jessica Aston and Oliver Brown were presented with the Derbyshire Junior League Trophy by special guest John Barker from Derbyshire Junior Golf,

Mooney thanked everyone for their support throughout the year and introduced the 2017 Junior captain Dan Latimer along with his vice captain Tom Fennah.

Following the presentation everyone made their way to the first tee where they were entertained by Tricky Rob’s Trick Golf Shot Show.
