Matlock racing driver Cavan Corcoran is on a hot winning streak in the world’s leading junior single-seater series, the Dunlop MSA Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain.
Nine races into the season, Cavan, 17, has yet to be beaten in the championship’s Scholarship class, which is for less experienced drivers racing older – and therefore less expensive – cars.
Cavan’s Formula Ford racer is a 2006 chassis from the French manufacturer Mygale, and it is prepared for him by Getem Racing.
His first taste of victory came at Silverstone in early April, where he claimed a hat-trick of class wins despite opposition from two rivals, 16-year-old David Moore, from North Yorkshire, and East Sussex driver Jake Jackson, 17.
Three more Scholarship class wins followed for Cavan over the Easter weekend at Oulton Park in Cheshire, and then last weekend at Snetterton in Norfolk he raced to another hat-trick of class victories, as well as sixth place overall in the final race of the weekend.
Cavan Corcoran now leads the class championship with double the points total of his closest competitor.
He explained: “I’m really pleased with the way the season has started for me, particularly since it was a late decision to compete and I had no chance for any pre-season testing.”
