Last Saturday’s home defeat to local rivals South Derbyshire ended the 2012 campaign on a mixed note for Matlock Water Polo Club before thoughts turned very quickly to the way ahead.

The match itself ended in a 17-8 defeat which could have been a lot wider but for good defensive work from Richard Massey and goalkeeper Tom Illingworth.

Coach Richard Sellors was quick to look at the wider picture afterwards.

“This season was always going to be about experience gathering and development.

“We started pre-season training the following day and we look ahead.”

Four goals by Rich Massey and three from Martin Beeson redressed the balance for the home side in an entertaining game.

Two meetings aimed at developing the club take part this week with another committee meeting following on the next week.

The club is continuously trying to improve its structure and appeal to both genders and all ages.

The club is particularly trying to find a regular junior training session and this week’s meetings have this as top priority.
