Open weekend is a big hit

One of the most important weeks of the Matlock Golf Club’s year began with the Seniors securing a 6–0 home victory against Chatsworth.

In the other club matches, the Vice Captain’s Team also beat Dore and Totley at home 6–0. In the Inter Club Foursomes, the Ladies Silver lost at Pastures four down and the Ladies Bronze beat Buxton and High Peak three up.

The winners of Medal 11 were: Men’s Div 1 Stephen Bradley 73 (8) 65, Div 2 A Leach 78 (10) 68, Div 3 Richard Lowe 85 (17) 68, Div 4 Andy Brown 84 (20) 64; Ladies Pat McGivern 101 (28) 73.

On Thursday, the Ladies held their Mixed Open am-am. This was a full day that experienced sunshine and blustery rain. The winners with 76 pts were Jill Smith (Matlock), Joel Smith, Peter Yewman and Eileen Yewma,n all from Renishaw Park.

Sunday was the prestigious Club’s Finals Day One. The weather was kind for the 36-hole competitions. The winners were; Drabble Trophy Phil Evans, Thornton Trophy John Gregory, Goodwin Memorial Cynthia Machent and Stuart Baker, Ladies Singles Knock Out Sheila Palfreyman, Ladies Foursommes Knock Out Diane Gray and Judith Graham, and the Junior Final Ed Lee.

The Open Weekend and Family Day was a total success with many junior visitors enjoying the taster golf sessions put on by Carol and Dave Hill. Any people that missed this opportunity, who are interested in taking up golf, should ring Carol Hill on 01246 568225.
