Matlock’s 15-7 home defeat against reigning league champions Hucknall A last Sunday demonstrated just how far the playing standard of the team has progressed recently, despite the scoreline.

“The shape is there and we are keeping possession,” exclaimed coach Richard Sellors.

“We played the best team in the league and we worried them for a while.”

Hucknall’s very early three-goal lead was pegged back to 5-3 before the quarter’s end, but Hucknall gradually made the game safe as the sessions continued.

Andy Massey picked up one major only six days after being permanently excluded at Bingham.

The club now faces a three-week playing break before a busy May period involving five games and the Rob Soppitt tournament.
