Joel Stevens of Wirksworth Running Club dominated the field to finish first in this year’s Brassington wakes week Fell Race, which took place at the weekend.
He led from the start of the 4.25 mile course, which circles the hills above Brassington, with approximately 500 feet of ascent.
The runners were given a rousing send off by the village in glorious sunshine and a large crowd gathered to see them return.
Joel smashed the previous course record, returning in 28 minutes and 29 seconds.
Second was Adam Rollitt of Ashbourne AC and with Tim Raynor of Mansfield Fell Runners in third place.

The Fell Race is just one of many events put on by the village during Wakes Week including a ‘Brassington’s Strongest Man’ competition, a children’s sports event and a boules knockout contest. Wirksworth RC’s next major event is the eight-mile Undulator Fell Race on Saturday, October 15.
