Seniors get under way

The Matlock Golf Club seniors’ team escaped the showers to play their first match of the season away to Horsley Lodge.

The course was in an excellent condition. In a competitive match played in the normal friendly spirit, Stuart Fletcher’s team unfortunately lost 4-2.

Well done to all the juniors who competed in the medal this week.

The winner was junior captain Ed Lee on the back nine count back with 81 (15) 66 and second was Ben Edgson 80 (14) 66.

In the cadets section, Tom Mooney and Oliver Brown both had great rounds, scoring 47pts and 46pts stableford points respectively.

This week’s Spondon Trophy results were; Matlock A lost to Chapel on the toss of a coin, Matlock B lost at home to Cavendish 4-3 on a sudden death play-off, Matlock C won 4-3 against Ashbourne at home, and Matlock D claimed the match against New Mills.

On Sunday, lady captain Veda Kay and lady vice-captain Louise Jones led their teams respectively, experiencing a flurry of snow on the course. The lady captain’s team won by 3.5 to 1.5. This was followed by an enjoyable meal in the clubhouse. Congratulations to Alan Holmes, who this week shot a hole in one on the fourth.
