Buxton veteran Peter Danson showed that age is but a number, after he captained England’s Over-70s hockey side to European glory last month.

Buxton Hockey club secretary Danson and his teammates lifted the European Cup at the tri-nation tournament held in Antwerp, Belgium.

England secured a brace of victories over both the old enemy Germany and Holland, to secure top spot in the tournament.

They beat the Germans 2-0 and 2-1 whilst the Netherlands were put to the sword by scorelines of 2-0 and 1-0 respectively.

The win sees Peter improve his individual record on the international stage.

Over the last 5 years, in the super-vets international tournaments Peter’s record now stands at a hat-trick of European Cups to go along with a World Cup winner’s medal.
