Matlock Baileans 1sts 1

Towcester 1

In the biggest clash of the season, Matlock 1sts were certainly keen to take the full three points from the game against the visitors from Northamptonshire.

However, after a strong start, Matlock who were looking dominant all over the pitch, were suddenly hit on the break and conceded an unfortunate short corner that led to a goal, clearly coming against the run of play.

Matlock continued to battle hard until half-time, but, at the break, the home team went in on the back foot, a goal behind.

The start of the second half saw Matlock return to the fray in good spirits and soon it was again clear that they were the stronger team.

In true Matlock style, this led to increased levels of determination from all players to pull back level with the visitors and hopefully go on to win the encounter.

So it was little surprise when Matlock levelled the score through team captain Nicola Martin’s wonder strike, resulting from a penalty corner.

All in all, Matlock maintained the bulk of the run of play through a strong team performance and were unfortunate to only take a point from the game.

Next week sees Matlock Baileans 1sts go looking for further points when they face Bedford away.
