Commonwealth Games gold medallist Sarah Price is to become the latest in a series of top sporting names to visit Derbyshire Dales District Council’s Arc Leisure Matlock.
The swimming star, who set the 200 metres backstroke world record in 2001 and won two gold medals at the 2002 Commonwealth Games, will be at the landmark £12 million Arc on Monday, June 25 after it was chosen as one of only four centres nationwide to pilot a new Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) SwimFit programme.
Sarah follows in the footsteps of legendary Olympian Sebastian Coe, who officially opened Arc Leisure Matlock in October last year, and Commonwealth Games gold medallist Donna Kellogg, who performed the topping out ceremony during the development of the facility
The new Swimfit sessions start on Monday, June 25, 7pm-8pm and Thursday, June 28, 6pm-7pm, running on Monday and Thursday evenings for five weeks.
The ten sessions are being offered for £10.
Places are limited so swimmers are asked to book early on 01629 581 322 or email email@example.com
The sessions are free to Active Leisure Plus and Swimming Pass holders.
Members of the public are welcome to watch as Sarah Price, Arc staff and ASA representatives launch the pilot project at 7pm on Monday, June 25.
Chairman of Derbyshire Dales District Council’s communities committee, Cllr Carol Walker, said: “Arc Leisure Matlock continues to be astonishingly successful, with 285,000 visits to date.
“Launching this pilot programme is another feather in our cap and a credit to our enthusiastic leisure team.
“Being chosen by an organisation such as the Amateur Swimming Association to test this type of new fitness programme raises the profile of Arc more and helps us maintain the Derbyshire Dales’ status as one of the healthiest places to live in the region.”
With the Olympics getting ever nearer, Arc Leisure Matlock has also teamed up with Technogym, the official supplier of fitness equipment to the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics, and the supplier to Arc Leisure Matlock’s state-of-the-art fitness suite.
Arc and Technogym are promoting a national campaign.
The challenge is to offer to all customers the opportunity to pledge to do something positive and active supporting “The Greatest Team”.
Arc Leisure Matlock has registered as a community hub to inspire everyone who uses the centre to get active and create a legacy for all local communities, helping to maintain the Derbyshire Dales’ status as one of the healthiest in the region.
