The queen of duathlon, Matlock Athletics Club’s Jan Forrester, has added a British title to her European gold and world bronze medals.

Forrester was first in the veteran ladies’ 65-to-69 year-olds’ age group at the national championships for standard distances (10k run, 39k bike and 5k run) at Bedford Aerodrome on Sunday.

In warm weather on a track designed by former Formula One driver Jonathan Palmer, Elsbeth Grant also ran a fine race to finish fourth in the junior duathlon, while her dad, Eugene, was 28th in the main event.

Junior runners from Matlock also took part in the RAF Scampton Duathlon in Lincolnshire, with Freya Lester (third overall and second girl), Izzy Lester (20th overall and third girl) and Lizzie Webster (fourth girl in her age group) doing well in their respective classes.
