The sporting achievements of Derbyshire school pupils and teams will be celebrated later this year at the tenth annual Derbyshire Schools’ Sports Association Sports Awards.
The awards recognise the sporting successes of school pupils from across Derbyshire, honouring those who have excelled in school sport or sport outside of school, and nominations for the event are currently being welcomed.
The event is organised by the Derbyshire Schools’ Sports Association (DSSA). Schools, sport and area associations are invited to nominate individuals and teams from primary, secondary and special schools in the following categories: Individual Achievement, Team Achievement, Young Leaders / Ambassadors, Adult Volunteer.
A special award, for media and arts contribution to school sport, has also been introduced for the first time this year.
This category will recognise individuals and groups who have produced exceptional work such as photography, film, written reports, music or dance in relation to school sport.
In the Individual Achievement, Team Achievement and Young Leaders / Ambassadors categories, awards will be divided into primary and secondary school categories, as well as a disability category.
More information about the awards can be found at www.derbyshiressa.co.uk where nomination forms can also be downloaded.
Chair of DSSA Karen Shopland said: “This has been another great year for school sport in Derbyshire and the awards are a chance to congratulate talented young people in a wide range of sports, celebrate their achievements and encourage them to future success.
“It is also a chance for the DSSA to thank its most dedicated young leaders and ambassadors and adult volunteers who give their time to school sport.”
The closing date for all nominations is 5pm on Monday, July 1.
Pupils attending any school within Derby and Derbyshire are eligible to be nominated, including those who were nominated last year.
Winners will be announced at a ceremony on Tuesday, October 1 at The County Ground, home of Derbyshire County Cricket Club in Derby.
