Darley Dale 1sts beat Swanwick Hall by six wickets
Darley Dale 1sts travelled to Swanwick looking for a second consecutive victory following their dismantling of Pilsley the previous week in Division 4N of the Derbyshire County League.
Having won the toss, Darley skipper Craig Elliott asked the home team to bat. Openers Paul Carson and the returning Dougie Briggs made life extremely difficult early on and both were unlucky not be rewarded early on.
It was, however, a great piece of fielding that accounted for the first wicket of Nick Edson, by Jake Hartley.
Andy Wilson followed shortly afterwards thanks to great catching from Simon Cotterill off the bowling of Carson.
Carson was in the action again shortly after to dismiss dangerman Luke Pressland. Greg Ward’s pacy introduction into the attack brought about two quick wickets.
Darley looked set to be frustrated by the rain with Swanwick on 53-5.
However, after a two-and-a-half-hour rain break, Darley managed to clinically dismiss Swanwick for 93.
Briggs’s second spell brought two wickets, Cotterill also took two, aided by smart keeping from Jack Stone, before Briggs’s astonishing run out wrapped up the innings.
With the weather delay changing the match to a time format, Darley were left to chase 94 from 22 overs, on what was now a testing pitch, due to the weather.
Elliott and Andy Paullett found the going tough early on and runs looked hard to come by.
When Elliott fell for 16, it looked as if Darley may fall just short of the runs.
However, Stone had other ideas and continued his recent good form with a quickfire 32 off 36 balls to push the balance back in Darley’s grasp and within a whisker of the target.
Paulett proved the key however, anchoring the Darley innings and seeing the visitors over the line for richly deserved 22 points.
Darley play their penultimate home fixture against Breadsall on Saturday.
