Rowsley maintain their title challenge with late fightback

Midlands Regional Alliance Round-up

The weekend saw the semi-final line up of the Midlands Regional Alliance Challenge Cup decided after the remaining three places were filled.

Among those in action were Rowsley 86 Reserves who were beaten by an extra-time winner from Willington in a 5-4 thriller, Henry Broatch, William Lester. Anthony Porter and David Manning on target for Rowsley.

Newhall United, already in the last four of the Challenge Cup, came close to causing an upset in their Premier Division clash against Rowsley ’86 by leading their high-flying guests until the 84th minute.

But late goals from Sam Hoskin and Aaron O’Neil added to Tim Baker’s earlier effort and saw Rowsley take a 3-2 win to keep their title hopes on track.

Elsewhere in the Premier Division, Matlock Sports and Little Eaton drew 2-2, Grant Boden and Callum Lytham on target for Matlock.

In Division One, Ambergate were soundly thrashed 9-0 by Shardlow St James, while the clash between Wirksworth Ivanhoe and Ripley Town was cut short due to ill discipline after an hour of the fixture.

In Division Two, Ambergate Reserves won 3-2 against Bargate Rovers Reserves to consolidate fourth spot, Sandiacre Town Reserves saw off Matlock Town CFA 2-1 with Jordan Evans replying for the visitors.

Wirksworth Town Reserves won by the same scoreline against Woolley Moor United Reserves. Matt Redshaw and Dan Wagstaff scored the Wirksworth goals.
