THE sun shone down on Cromford Meadows on Sunday as fundraisers stepped out to take part in Matlock Rugby Club’s Sport Relief event.

The first Sport Relief get-together of its kind staged by the club was successful in attracting almost 200 runners, not to mention joggers and walkers, keen to do their bit for the national fundraising extravaganza.

Some took part in the six-mile event, some in the three and some in the one-mile race, competing in families, on their own, in teams, in fancy dress, but without exception in glorious sunshine.

There were spectacular scenes across the Meadows with a musical stretch and warm-up provided by Gina Knowles, accompanied by Ashover Brass Band, all taking place alongside the club’s under 14s, who were playing a touring team from Cambridge.

The final amount raised had not yet been collated at the time of going to press but it was estimated as somewhere in the region of £1,200.

The club would like to issue huge thanks to all the entrants, volunteer helpers and supporters.
