Runners out in force for Malt Shovel Relay

Round-up.

The Malt Shovel Relay (3 x 2 miles) took place on August 28 in ideal weather conditions for running.

This race involves running two miles for each leg along the lanes and tracks near Wirksworth Moor; race HQ being the Malt Shovel Inn.

Matlock AC entered nine teams, ranging in age from 12 to over 70 and Team 1 of Joe Hallas, Alan Pickering and Zak Hodgkinson took second place in a time 35.07, second to Heanor RC (33.26);.

Hodgkinson also recorded the fastest MAC time of 10.51.

Other runners included: Team 2 - Rhys Brown, Chris Hallas, Simon Flitter, Team 3 - Jim Thorneycroft, Dennis Holmes, Martin Lea, Team 4 - Dennis Belbin, Andy Whittaker, Anthony Marchington, Team 5 - Steve Holt, Steve Mead, Dave Gooing, Team 6 - Michaela Dick, Oscar and Jacob Cousins, Team 7 - Katie Haywood, Andrea Priestley, Sian Mead, Team 8 - Jan Forrester, Tess Whittaker, Julie Goodwin and Team 9 - Gerry White, Jim Titterton, Clive Russell.

There were 37 teams in total, including from Wirksworth, Ripley and Belper. Full results can be found at www.runningwithdavid.com.

On Sunday the Derby Triathlon took place in sunny conditions, the venue being the Motorways Sports Complex in Derby. For MAC Christine Howard took park in the Sprint distance -400m swim, followed by a 20k bike through Derby passing the Rolls Royce factories and then a 5k off-road run finishing back at the athletic running track. She finished 2nd FV40 in 1.07.28.

The overall winner was Michael Graham in 54.24 and the female winner was Lauren York of Blair Davies Coaching in 1.04.31.

In the Junior race (100m swim, 2k bike, 1k run) MAC was represented by Lizzie Webster, who put in a fine performance to finish 17th overall out of 172 and third girl in 14.44.

This event was organised by Punishing Events.

A packed schedule of running lies ahead in the coming week including the Wilne 10k on Sunday which is in the MAC senior Grand Prix as well as being a Derbyshire County Championship race, and the club will also have runners taking part in the Great North Run.
