With Matlock’s first XI out of action it was over to the seconds as they had league and cup matches at the weekend.
At home to Duffield on Saturday in Division Five North, the visitors batted first and made 233-4 from their 46 overs.
A slow start was suddenly accelerated from 26-1 to 114-2, opener Phil Jordan in fine form with 96 and Mark Antill 37.
Andy Hawkmoon accounted for the latter and Jordan was finall out when caught by keeper Matt Haywood off David Lander’s bowling.
Other wickets went to Sam Lawson and a second for Lander.
Matlock lost Lander early on in reply but Haywood’s good partnership with Steve Pell settled things down, Haywood making 45.
After a delay due to a Duffield injury, Matlock struggled to get going again but managed to see out the final overs, ending on 124-7 to take four points to Duffield’s 17.
Matlock then hosted Quarndon in a Boolers Cup tie on Sunday, but began with ten men and with the captain as a stand-in wicket keeper.
Matlock made 136-7 with Rob Lowe’s 61 being the highlight, his partnership with Phil Braund (17)proving key. Chris Jones took four of Quarndon’s wickets.
Quarndon then knocked off the target for the loss of just four wickets, Jake Lowe’s 52 the catalyst. Sam Lawson took two wickets with Dave Lander and Tim Braund claiming the others as the visitors took victory with six overs to spare.
