Wing ton is the difference

Langley Mill United CC 2nd XI beat Matlock 2nd XI by six wickets

The wet weather had understandably caused problems with the surface at the Langley Mill ground but the teams and umpires agreed this Division 5N game could be played on the artificial wicket.

Matlock got off to a good start with second wicket partners Matt Haywood (44) and Rob Lowe (26) going well until first change bowler Stuart Mee (3-56) intervened, removing both, then adding Drew Mullaney to his haul.

Further resistance came from Matthew Hulley (21) and Tom Coey (26) but then the tail collapsed against the bowling of Grant Ball (4-33) and Alex Bacon (2-21).

The insufficiency of the 46-over total of 154-9 was soon revealed by the prolific Neil Wing (101 not out). Dropped early on, he scored 65 per cent of Langley Mill’s winning total of 156-4 in just 28 overs, the four wickets shared equally between Tom Watkinson, Rob Lowe, Drew Mullaney and Tom Coey.

Matlock remain in the relegation zone. Next up is a game at home to Denby 3rd XI.
