A GIANT paw print has been found in the Dales prompting more speculation big cats are roaming the countryside.
Resident Brian Smith came across the latest print near to Black Rocks in Cromford, while out walking his dog.

The marking measured four-inches and was discovered in open ground next to a public footpath.

Mr Smith said: "I've never seen anything like it before but I've heard people talking about big cats.

"I compared it to my dogs paw print and it was much bigger."

In January a three-inch wide print was spotted by Wirksworth farmer Peter Ward, of Barrel Farm, Millers Green.

He found the print on land near where he kept the cattle and after doing some research believed the markings were similar to those of a puma.

He reported his finding to the police and the British Big Cats' Society.

At last something to justify my hightened state of alert.

I've been imploring people to show more care while walking in the beautiful dales for some time now.

Even if these big cats are rare, we should always ready ourselves for an unexpected encounter.

As the Marines would say "Stay frosty!".

There is definitely some kind of large cat out there. I was walking with my family through the woods near Alderwasley when we saw a sizeable creature a distance away through the trees. The fur had a grey lustre to it, and it was almost the size of a labrador. It was not a dog, no-one else was around, and it walked almost silently.

We are convinced that there is something to this story.
