Chesterfield’s Festival of Music and Drama, to be held at Rose Hill Church and Elder Yard Chapel next month, has attracted more than 100 entries from vocalists, instrumentalists, school choirs and drama students.

The weekend festival on April 22 and 23 will culminate with a winners’ concert on the Saturday night with trophies being awarded to outstanding performers.

Unstone resident Julia Tew was instrumental in restoring the festival in 2010 after a four year break. Julia says “My sons took part in previous festivals and loved the experience.

“I felt it was important to further musical talent in Chesterfield through competition and I’ve received wonderful support from the official accompanists and volunteers who help in running the festival and making it a success.”

As the festival receives no official funding, a cabaret evening will take place at Hasland Village Hall on Saturday, April 9, at 7.30pm when singers Quintessential and Friends, with Chris Flint on piano, will perform a programme of popular songs and music. Tickets cost £6 from Julia on 01246 418887 or buy on the door on the night.
