Singer Chris Helme first rose to prominence as frontman of John Squires' post-Stone Roses band The Seahorses.

Although rightfully remembered for Britpop anthems Love Is The Law and Blinded By The Sun, the opening track of Chris’ solo albumThe Rookery instantly appeared cut from an entirely different cloth when it was released in 2012.

Since The Seahorses split in 1999, the ever modest and publicity shy Helme has continued to work up an enviable back catalogue.

Bolstered by his acclaimed works with the Yards, Chris’ new tour - which comes to Buxton next month - follows appearances supporting Martha Reeves and the Vandellas and Shed Seven.

Chris began singing and performing at the age of 19, in the pubs and folk clubs in his native York.

It was a friend of Stone Roses’ guitarist John Squire who discovered Chris busking outside Woolworths department store in York’s Coney Street and put him in touch with the superstar.

He launches his UK tour in Buxton, performing at the Pavilion Arts Centre on May 14 at 7.30pm.

Tickets are priced at £15. To book or for further information, contact 01298 72190 or www.buxtonoperahouse.org.uk
