Derby Cathedral’s April exhibition will be a series of prints by Heather Hornsley entitled Down to Earth.
It runs from April 2-30 (9am-5pm, Monday-Saturday) in the Sir Richard Morris Lounge.
Heather lives in Burton-on-Trent but has a studio at Banks Mill in Derby, where she has been busy producing work for magazines, designing book covers and greeting cards.
Her work has been selected for inclusion in the Best of British Illustration publication in both 2011 and 2012.
As a mature student at the University of Derby Art and Design Department, Heather already had experience of designing greeting cards but the degree course has helped to develop her talents. Her degree project was an illustrated book depicting the customers and ambiance of roadside cafés.
She has always been fascinated by pockets of popular culture and in this series has turned her attention to the world of fruit and vegetable allotments, recording their characteristic atmosphere.
Derby Cathedral exhibitions officer Geoff Robson said: “Viewing Heather’s prints we will find ourselves as intrigued as she is with the quirks and peculiarities of the allotment scene.”
