A NEW craft gallery and studio has opened its doors in Crich.
The Seed Gallery and Studio specialises in contemporary, local, handmade craft with most of its makers being graduates from Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.
Gallery owner Sarah Jennings set up the Seed Gallery to both work from and to exhibit her own work and that of fellow graduates.
She said: “I know from experience just how difficult it is to get your work into galleries when you start out. I wanted to provide a space for talented new makers to be seen and to help them grow professionally.”
The gallery is housed in the old Reading Room in Crich.
Sarah added: “I wanted to give this historical building a new lease of life and bring something unique to Crich.”
Ex-teacher Sarah, who graduated with a first class degree in Crafts from the University of Derby last year, makes wall-hung and tabletop sculptures. It is Sarah’s aim to run the gallery sustainably and she is working towards The Peak District Environmental Quality Mark. The gallery’s first exhibition, Seedlings, will showcase this year’s BA Crafts graduates from the University of Derby. The exhibition opens on August 12.
