Members of the Dalesmen Male Voice Choir have apologised over the cancellation of their concert at the Grand Pavilion Matlock Bath last Saturday evening.
A spokesman for the choir said: “The Dalesmen would like to express their deep regret that the concert organisers, the Friends of the Grand Pavilion, had to take
the decision to cancel the concert so near the event. Consequently a number of people turned up to find a closed Pavilion and a notice from the organisers stating the concert had been cancelled.
“It appears that the Pavilion currently does not have a heating system in operation and given the extreme weather conditions it was considered impossible to expect an audience and the choir to suffer the near freezing temperatures resulting from the Arctic conditions particularly felt across Derbyshire.
“The Dalesmen understood that the concert was being organised by the Friends of the Grand Pavilion as part of a fund raising campaign to help with the cost of restoration, but were notified that the building currently had no heating just a few days before the event date.
“The choir members were very disappointed not to be able to perform, particularly having undergone pre-concert practices in preparation, but the choir recognised that it would have been unreasonable for the public to have been expected to have paid for and withstood a concert under such circumstances.”
The Dalesmen have a heavy programme for 2013 including a major concert at Derby Cathedral on 29th June at 7.15pm. Details will be appearing on their web site in the next few weeks www.dalesmen.org/
It is uncertain at present if the cancelled concert at the Grand Pavilion will be able to be rescheduled for later in the year but no doubt talks between the Dalesmen and the organisers will be taking place.
