ACOUSTIC jazz quartet the Djangonauts will be in concert at Darley Dale’s Whitworth Centre on Friday, September 30.
Djangonauts are a hard swinging acoustic jazz quartet playing in the Gypsy Jazz style. The band has a fresh modern sound but is firmly rooted in the style of the legendary Manouche guitar virtuoso Django Reinhardt.
Chris Walker, one of their founder members, played a sell-out duo gig with Jamie Taylor in November last year.
Their repertoire features many original arrangements of tunes by Django Reinhardt alongside contemporary jazz pieces from composers including Chick Corea and the Modern Jazz Quartet.
Their biggest gig to date was at Glastonbury 2010 where they wowed the audience at the Bourbon Street Jazz and Blues venue. They also headlined the opening night of the International Guitar Festival of Great Britain in November 2010.
The gig is in The Ballroom at the centre with doors opening at 7pm. The show starts at 7.30pm. Tickets are £7.50/£6 concessions.
