There will be an an evening of song at Darley Dale’s Whitworth Centre on Friday, February 28, with the music being provided by the Derbyshire Constabulary Male Voice Choir.

Derbyshire Wildlife Trust and the Whitworth Centre are inviting you to the event.

The Derby-based choir has been performing concerts since it was formed in 1956.

In the past five years, it has raised over £35,000 for charities.

The choir is made up of 30 volunteers, led by musical director Chris Hare.

They perform a variety of songs from opera, pop and musicals in addition to a couple of traditional hymns.

They also perform some more contemporary songs including Keith Christopher’s Let All Men Sing, Bring Him Home from Les Miserables and The Mansions of the Lord which featured in the film We Were Soldiers and was performed at former US president Ronald Reagan’s funeral service.

The Whitworth Centre concert will be raising funds for the centre and for the Derbyshire Wildlife Trust.

The trust is a Registered Charity and is the only organisation working to protect all wildlife across the county. It manages 42 nature reserves throughout Derbyshire, advises local authorities and landowners on nature conservation issues and runs a range of conservation and education projects.

Doors open at 7pm and the concert starts at 7.45pm.

n There is a Young Musicians open mic night at Designate@TheGate in Matlock on Friday, February 28.

This is an opportunity for 7-17 year olds to showcase their talent at the Smedley Street venue. There will also be a performance on the night by The Miserabillies.
