Blues aces ready for Wirksworth show

Town Hall Events Wirksworth will be starting their autumn programme with a performance by British Blues Award-winning duo Babajack, on Friday, October 25.

Described by one blues magazine as ‘one of the most exciting blues, roots, folk outfits in the UK’, Babajack are fast becoming one of the most sought-after bands on the blues, roots, acoustic circuits in the UK and Europe.

Their brand of blues is contemporary, powerful and acoustic.

Becky Tate and Trevor Steger combine great musicianship, passion, energy and charismatic performance to create a memorable show.

They are multi-award winners in the British Blues Awards 2012/2013, and they were runners up in three categories including Best Acoustic Act, Best Harmonica Player, Best Album (Rooster).

Doors open for the gig at Wirksworth Town Hall at 8pm.

Further dates for the Autumn Programme include Cotton Grass Theatre’s Dorothy Parker, on Friday, November 8, Blues Boy - Dan Owen on Saturday, November 16, and Tankus The Henge on Friday, November 22, while already booked for May 2014 is British Blues Awards artist of the year Ian Siegal.

n A top play about master of suspense Alfred Hitchcock visits Tideswell tonight (Thursday).

New Perspectives Theatre Company return with their production, The Lovesong of Alfred J Hitchcock.

The play, which received a four-star review from The Guardian’s Michael Billington when it premiered at Curve Theatre Leicester, unravels some of the mysteries behind the man and his famous films. Written by David Rudkin, this startling play evokes the beauty of Hitchcock’s films. It is a character study which gives an unprecedented glimpse into the mind of one of the most famous film directors of all time.
