Somercotes Choral Society is returning on Saturday, October 25, to Alfreton after an absence of ten years for its performance of Come Rain or Shine!
The society, formed in 1951, currently has around 50 members, and in recent years has performed at South Normanton Post Mill Centre.
Now, in an effort to widen their audience, the choir is moving to Alfreton Grange Arts College.
Carole Jones, the concert secretary, says a benefit of the college is that there is tiered seating. “This will give the audience a better view, but the biggest benefit is that many of our members and supporters live closer to Alfreton and we feel we will be able to boost attendance.”
Come Rain or Shine! features around 20 songs about the weather and seasons, including Autumn Leaves, Blue Skies, Over the Rainbow, Summertime and Sunrise Sunset.
Additionally, as it is the 100th anniversary of the start of the First World War, the choir will perform a selection of war songs.
The musical director is Neil Farley and the accompanist is John Hobbs. For The choir will be joined by Blidworth Welfare Brass Band Ensemble.
The concert starts at 7pm. Tickets cost £7 (under 16s £4), available on 07905 242750 or 01773 602 335.
