There will be an epic Mahler symphony and a double dose of Elgar in Derby Concert Orchestra’s next concert, which will be held at Derby Cathedral on Saturday, March 16.
The programme features Elgar’s short song-cycle Sea Pictures, for female voice and orchestra, plus his transcription of Handel’s Overture In D.
The second half is handed over to Mahler’s large-scale Sixth Symphony, a multi-faceted and epic work that was successsfully performed by the DCO in a concert at the cathedral back in 1998.
The Royal Northern College of Music’s Heather Ireson will be the soloist in Sea Pictures, the concert will be conducted by Jonathan Trout and it starts at 7.30pm.
Tickets cost £12 (£10 concessions) and under 16s get in free with an adult.
