Juliet will put jazz divas in the spotlight

Juliet Kelly performs her show Celebrating the Divas of Jazz at the Village Hall, Calver, on Friday, April 4, at 7.30pm.

The concert is being presented under the Live And Local banner.

Juliet Kelly is an exceptional singer and songwriter and performs a tribute to the jazz divas that have been her inspiration, accompanied by a talented pianist.

Juliet has a rich velvet voice and self-confessed ‘glam’ jazz’ style. Her set includes songs from iconic jazz vocalists including Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday, and showcases popular favourites as well as lesser known gems.

She has excellent musical pedigree, having released three critically acclaimed albums and worked with musicians such as Courtney Pine, Talvin Singh and Seb Rochford and supported high profile performers including Georgie Fame and Take That.

n The latest screening in the Calver Film season is to be Untouchable (15), showing on Thursday, April 10, at Calver Village Hall, from 7.30pm.

This is a 2013 French language film with English subtitles that took France by storm. Based on the true story of a wealthy paraplegic who develops an unlikely friendship with an ex-convict who becomes his carer. Untouchable is both heart-breaking and funny.
