Loudon and Lucy tread the boards

American folk singer, songwriter and humourist Loudon Wainwright III will be appearing at Buxton Opera House on Sunday, May 15, at 7.30pm.

Loudon has been a successful singer for over 40 years and was at one time hailed ‘the new Dylan’ – a tag he lampooned in the song Talking New Bob Dylan.

In his trademark, self-mocking style, Loudon has carved out a niche as a confessional singer and songwriter. He also appeared as Capt Calvin Spalding (the singing surgeon) in the TV series MASH as well as in films such as Big Fish and The Aviator.

Loudon continues to plough his own furrow through the music business and remains an inspiration to generations of singers.

Loudon will be supported on stage by his daughter Lucy Wainwright Roche. Coming from impeccable musical stock, it was perhaps inevitable that Lucy would become a singer, thus far having brought out two acclaimed EPs (Eight Songs and Eight More) and her recent album, Lucy.

Tickets for Loudon Wainwright III, with support from daughter Lucy Wainwright Roche, will be £23 and £25. Call the box office on 0845 127 2190.
