Buxton Opera House and Pavilion Arts Centre’s autumn and winter season details have been unveiled, with a host of exciting shows lined up.
The programme is bursting with top quality comedians this season including the effortlessly funny and the best-selling author of A Beginner’s Guide to Acting English, Shappi Khorsandi, multi-award-winning Omid Djalili will also return with his brand new comedy show Tour of Duty, Mark Watson, host of ITV’s Mark Watson Kicks Off and star of cult Radio 4 series Mark Watson Makes The World Substantially Better, and Mock The Week favourite Ed Byrne.
Drama highlights will see a double-header from Ian Dickens Productions – The Woman in White and Changing Rooms – and a double-bill from Original Theatre with Twelfth Night and See How They Run.
An exciting new national tour of Equus from London Classic Theatre will take place, as will the latest play from the pen of John Godber: The Debt Collectors. Other titles to be dramatised over the coming months include Frankenstein, The Tempest and A Bedfull of Foreigners.
Dance this season features a full-length piece from Darshan Singh Bhuller, telling the life story of Caravaggio. Tangomotion will provide a breathtaking evening, featuring live music from Tango Siempre (the UK’s leading tango ensemble). And An Evening of Burlesque, direct from the West End, will showcase tantalising yet tasteful showgirls and combine Parisian charm with Las Vegas glamour.
Ballet in the new season includes Theatre UK with their presentation of The Snow Queen, and The European Ballet will return with The Nutcracker.
Music will encompass rock ‘n’ roll icon, author, restaurateur, photographer and legendary former Rolling Stones bassist Bill Wyman, the world famous Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain, Buxton born frontman of The Commotions, Lloyd Cole and legendary bluesman John Mayall.
Children and family events are big news during the new season with the venue announcing a complete new learning and participation programme called Kaleidoscope, including OctoberFest, an annual October half-term arts festival. Other children and family events include this year’s annual pantomime Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Numberjacks - Live!, Hansel and Gretel, The Secret Garden and many more.
