Bakewell Choral Society’s summer concert is to be held at the Medway Centre in the town on Saturday, July 6, starting at 7.30pm.
The centrepiece of an attractive and diverse evening of music is to be a performance of John Rutter’s The Sprig of Thyme, a collection of traditional folk songs arranged by the popular composer.
Vaughan Williams’ arrangements of four well known folk songs are also easy on the ear while Singing by Numbers, by Bob Chilcott, is an imaginative setting of seven short poems about the art and joys of singing.
Bob Chilcott uses such diverse contributors as Sassoon, Ravenscroft, Spike Milligan and The Apochrypha.
The final work of the evening is the joyful birthday ode Come ye sons of Art by Henry Purcell. Soloists from the Royal Northern College Of Music will offer songs by Quilter, Gurney, Finzi and Purcell.
Tickets are £10 while children and students get in free.
