THERE’S a double header of top music entertainment at The Fishpond in Matlock Bath this weekend.
Friday night sees the return of the wonderfully different BB Blackdog. Who else has two bass guitars and a drum kit as their instrument line-up?
With Dale’s delicate, if sometimes controversial, vocals floating over his virtuoso lead bass, underpinned by John’s grungy rumbling bedrock bass, you would think it was ‘different’ enough already. Maybe the sight and sound of a six foot seven inch drummer windmilling around his kit with Germanic precision might top it off.
No? Then let’s throw in the sultry shimmying that guest artiste Rosie provides during some of the set, all adding up to a good night. The free gig in the bar gets under way ay 9pm.
Then, Saturday night features a set by The Something? as part of the venue’s Band Xplosion event. The Something? play one of the bigger local venues for the first time this year when they take to the stage in The Ballroom. The band, made up of brothers Andy and Leigh Page, Jamie Uphill and Jonathan Smith, has hit 2011 running with dates already stretching right into December.
Catch them at the first of their 2011 gigs on Saturday where they will share the night with two top touring bands – Sister Rose – a four-piece indie band from the North East and Dudley-based five-piece Dakota Beats. Entry is £3 and doors open at 8pm.
