Aficionados of old-time country music are in for a treat as Blackbrook Valley Arts welcomes American roots-style band The Buffalo Gals to Chinley next weekend.

A British band at the forefront of the current wave of American roots-inspired music, the six musicians of The Buffalo Gals revive the old string band tradition in its most vibrant form, punctuated with a thrilling and syncopated traditional step-dance that has become one of their trademarks.

The band will perform at Chinley Women’s Institute on Friday November 29, at 7.30pm, in conjunction with Blackbrook Valley Arts and Live & Local.

Terry Jackson, of Blackbrook Valley Arts, said: “It’s fantastic to welcome the Buffalo Gals here to Chinley.

“Their blend of traditional tunes with fresh new interpretation and infectious rhythms are bound to get the audience dancing in the aisles.”

Led by champion Maryland fiddler Kate Lissauer, the Gals specialise in the old songs and tunes of Appalachia, early Bluegrass, early country music, blues and rags, ballads, work songs, dance numbers, spirituals and gospel – all of which are delivered with passion, flair and humour.

The Gals combine a love of traditional sounds with an enthusiasm for fresh arrangement and a talent for lively entertainment, appealing to audiences of all ages.

The visual and musical finesse of their performances, as well as humour and rapport with their audiences, have made Buffalo Gals one of the most sought-after acts on the roots music circuit.

Tickets, priced £8 including an online booking fee, are available in advance only from wegottickets.com/bva.
