July’s Storytelling Cafe event in Matlock offers a unique night of storytelling from Native America.
Robert Greygrass is both a storyteller and a singer from the Lakota people. He was recognised by elders from many different tribes and given their blessing to come and talk to the ‘two-leggeds’ – the people.
Since then, Robert has travelled extensively across Turtle Island and other parts of the world sharing his stories.
Turtle Island is the North American continent: Canada, United States and part of Mexico. Many native American people say that there was a giant flood and after the flood a great turtle raised up and she had mud on her back and all of life came back to that place.
Robert loves to share his songs, laughter and wisdom through traditional stories, all threaded with his unique and quirky philosophy on life.
The Storytelling Cafe is on at the Imperial Rooms in Matlock on Friday July 1. The doors open at 6.45pm and light meals, hot and soft drinks and cake are available. You’re welcome to bring your own bottle of wine or beer, glasses are provided. The stories start at 7.30pm.
Tickets cost £/£3 students and are available from The Greenway Cafe, Snitterton Rd, Matlock or by calling Storytelling Cafe on 01629 580023.
