Dronfield actress Marilyn Barker is going to come clean about her latest stage role…because it lands her right in the laundry basket!

Marilyn plays mysterious Mrs Meers, the enigmatic white slaver and proprietor of a New York hotel for young ladies, in hit Hollywood, Broadway and West End musical Thoroughly Modern Millie.

The outrageous spoof 1920s adventure is the next show from Wodseats Musical Theatre Company and runs at Dronfield Civic Theatre from June 18 to 21.

And one key scene from the madcap romp sees Marilyn bundled up with the laundry by incompetent sidekicks Dan Storey and Adam Walker!

“It’s not the most comfortable scene I’ve ever played but it is very funny,” said Marilyn.

“Let’s just say that once you’re in the basket, there’s no a lot of room for movement.”

The comic story of a young stenographer looking for her ideal husband stars Sue Claydon as social climber Millie, with the men in her life played by Jamie Cooke and South Yorkshire amateur theatre favourite Richard Carlin.

“This is a great toe-tapping musical for everyone to enjoy,” said director Mary Newey.

“With fantastic songs, outrageous comedy and some snappy dance routines, we aim to create a memorable night in Dronfield.”
