Dev’s Army is an intriguing new play by established writer Stuart Lee and can seen at Paupers Pit, Buxton, on July 8, 9, 14 and 16.
The dark comedy is playing as part of the Underground Venues programme at the Buxton Fringe Festival.
A charming, thought-provoking Irish comedy, the story is set in 1940 when the Republic of Ireland remained neutral in World War Two. Through the lives of three normal men, caught up in the wretched drama that was Ireland’s attempt to defend its shores, their prejudices are challenged. The subtleties of Irish allegiances are explored when the local defence volunteers discover ‘a body on the beach’.Nothing is as black and white as we think when it’s coloured green.
Tickets to see Dev’s Army are available at a cost of £8 (child and concessions £7). They can be purchased online at www.undergroundvenues.co.uk or you can call 02081 440 070 between noon-3pm.
