Stagefright Comedy Club returns to The Fishpond in Matlock Bath on Wednesday, September 18.
On the bill will be Gavin Webster, Jay Hampson, Nicola James and your regular compere Anthony J Brown.
Gavin Webster is a hilarious, thought-provoking Geordie raconteur with a staggering turn of phrase. His slew of credits include Never Mind The Buzzcocks, The Stand-Up Show, The Comedy Store, The 11 O’ Clock Show, Does Doug Know and The Show What You Wrote.
Famed and respected by his peers for his uncompromising and unusual approach and distinctly original routines, he now boasts a large cult following round the country and particularly on his native Tyneside, where he sells out theatres with his one-man 90-minute shows.
With hard-edged routines, quickfire pastiche pieces, moronic jokes and sardonic songs, his unique style is a joy to behold.
Winner of the coveted Crooked Smile Comedy Award in August 2011, Jay Hampson is a droll and articulate performer, proffering evocative imagery coupled with caustic quips that chronicle his transformation from a Manchester ghetto kid into a self-loathing, Guardian-reading, consumer of overpriced organic products.
If you’ve ever wanted to understand the psychology behind chintzy patterns and serial killers, Nicola James is the one to watch.
She is a Sheffield-based comedian who has quite rightly been described as ‘sweetly cynical’.
And then there’s compere Anthony J Brown, clad in a sartorially edifying manner, like a dapper and dandy funeral director. The award-winner is a regular contributor to Radio 2’s The Arthur Smith Lectures, and has also been seen on TV in The Stand Up Show and Phoenix Nights.
Doors open at 7pm and the show starts at 8pm. Admssion is £6 in advance (£8 on the door). Call 01629 581 529.
