Winter Walker to stage Three Keepers at Buxton’s Pavilion Arts Centre

Derbyshire-based theatre company Winter Walker is making waves with its atmospheric children’s play Three Keepers, charting the course of lighthouse attendants as they battle the elements during a storm.

Three Keepers marks Winter Walker’s first major production, made possible with an investment from Arts Council England’s National Lottery funded Grants for the arts programme and by Derby-based regional dance house Déda.

Aimed at everyone aged eight and over, the tale follows life on a lighthouse, told through an inventive blend of physical theatre, dance and comedy, inspired by the silent film clowning of Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin.

Director Kitty Winter explained that the inspiration for the show came from an exhibition on lighthouses at the National Maritime Museum.

“We were struck by how small the living quarters were and we imagined three big men having to live and work together in that tiny space, with nothing but the wind and waves outside, getting on each other’s nerves.

“That seemed like a brilliant starting point for physical comedy.”

Three Keepers takes place at Pavilion Arts Centre on Tuesday 10 February at 2pm. Tickets £9 (adult), £7 (child).
