Reading has surged during lockdown with Derbyshire libraries reporting an increase in loans of ebooks and audio books.

In April, there were 6,044 downloads of electronic and audio books by members of Derby Libraries, compared to 3,242 downloads during the same month in 2019.

High street book retailers Waterstones also saw a 400% increase in book sales during lockdown.

As city libraries start to reopen again this month after lockdown, Derby Libraries is asking people to nominate their favourite book and give a brief summary of why it is so special to them.

Every entry will be entered into a draw to win an Apple iPad Mini 5th generation – useful for all kinds of tasks as well as enjoying eBooks!

You can vote up until Sunday, September 27, at www.inderby.org.uk/libraries/news/the-search-is-on-to-find-derbys-favourite-book.

The winning book will be announced on the Derby Libraries website and social media on Monday,October 19.

The top ten favourite books will be bought and displayed in the city’s libraries.
